MEXICO CITY (Milenio Newspaper)
Representatives of signatories to the Global Compact recently held a meeting to build regional alliances in social responsibility.
The Global Compact of the United Nations (UN) is a strategy announced in the run-up to the twenty-first century. It modified the operation and business models of companies, as well as their form to do business, as population growth forced them to think about sustainability.
“The issue of sustainability is not a marketing issue, it’s not a matter of I’m going to plant trees on a specific day of the year. It’s really a need for change and transformation in companies,” says Jesus Gonzalez Arellano, president of the Global Compact in Mexico.
In this context, the Regional Encounter of Local Networks of America of the Global Compact was held in Mexico City on December 8 and 9. During this event, there was a private meeting between the executive director of the Global Compact, Lise Kingo and CEOs of some companies such as OHL Mexico’s Sergio Hidalgo, Miguel Rincon from Bio Pappel, Jaime Camara from Petstar, Mariano Hernandez from nuvoil, Ricardo Dueñas from Ekox And Diego de la Torre from Cementos La Viga.
In said forum, the private sector in Mexico presented the results of the development criteria promoted by the Global Compact and committed to promote the 4 principles in human rights, labor rights, environment and anti-corruption.
The work of companies is needed to build regional and global alliances to achieve better results in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, said Lise Kingo, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact.
