Gender equality, a strategic pillar of CSR of Nuvoil
As part of our actions of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Nuvoil joins the initiative “Target Gender Equality”, a program which accelerates the gender equality for the companies participating in the United Nations Global Compact.
This program pursues that the companies take actions as measures that allow making progress in the leadership and representation of women in business.
“Gender equality is part of the strategic pillar of Corporate Social Responsibility of Nuvoil, being this a decision we made as a Mexican company. With actions like this, we make progress in the implementation of principles of women’s empowerment, and we strengthen our contribution to the Sustainable Development Goal #5, which requires equal representation, participation and leadership of women in business worldwide”, said José Edel Álvarez Delong, director general of Nuvoil Business Group.
27 Mexican companies join the program, and it will be implemented in 20 countries
The companies participating as members of the First Generation ‘Target Gender Equality’ are: Nuvoil, Aeroméxico, Cemex, CIBanco, Comercializadora 2025, Copachisa, Crédito Real, Creel, García-Cuellar, Aiza y Enríquez, Distribuidora de Aceros Laminados, DPA Services, Fibra Uno, Genomma Lab, Granjas Carroll de México, Grupo Financiero Banorte, Grupo Salinas, Grupo Xcaret, Iberdrola México, KPMG, Notaria 134, PetStar, Banregio, Ripipsa, Scania, USG México and WSP México, and they will receive support for business actions as part of their contribution to Sustainable Development Goal 5.5, which calls for women’s full participation and equal leadership opportunities, even in economic life by 2030.
The Target Gender Equality program will be implemented in twenty countries in 2020.
Opening Ceremony of United Nations Program
Martha Herrera, president of Global Compact in Mexico led the opening ceremony.
“The gender economic gap is widening, and now it will take 257 years to close it. The companies must help to reverse this trend and take bold actions to make progress in gender equality. This is the time for ensuring that the women’s participation goals are achieved as part of comprehensive balanced scorecards and corporate strategies in all companies”, said Lise Kingo, CEO and executive director of the United Nations Global Compact.
Meanwhile, Belén Sanz, representative of UN Women in Mexico stated as follows:
“Congratulations to all the companies that assume gender equality and women’s empowerment as comprehensive part of their activities through their participation in this initiative. They take an important step so that women develop their full potential as economic agents. The private sector has a crucial role to make this a reality. By promoting innovation and creativity, you are a key ally to rebuild a better tomorrow”.
