Nuvoil, a 100 % Mexican company, promotes programs which foster the best international practices for women’s empowerment and the compliance with the Sustainable Development Goal number 5: Gender Equality, of the 2030 Agenda led by the UN.
In that regard, José Edel Álvarez, CEO of Nuvoil Business Group, highlighted that for promoting both the empowerment of women and gender equality, it is essential to continue with the involvement and leadership of the oil and gas industry as integral part of the corporate sustainability.
Therefore, as generators of change within the corporate social responsibility strategies and the framework of “Todos a la Cultura” program developed by Nuvoil in collaboration with Arbor Ars civil association, “La otra mitad del cielo” (The other half of heaven) contest was carried out. Female collaborators and relatives participated in such contest writing an essay with the topic; “I also have a dream”, in which they reflected their wishes, desires and experiences regarding the gender equality and the respect to girls and women’s rights.
Through art and culture, the company encourages both female and male collaborators as well as their relatives to discover new ways of expression, a key factor for the prevention of any type of discrimination and violence. In addition to this, the company creates work spaces for women in the oil industry, which are free of harassment or bullying in the work sphere and encourage the balance between the family and professional life.

The winners received an art work by Mariana del Campo, a Mexican plastic artist committed to the empowerment of women
With this initiative, Nuvoil Business Group reaffirms its commitment to promote the inclusion of women in the energy sector. Likewise, as an active member of the United Nations World Compact, José Edel Álvarez stated as follows:
“In Nuvoil we voluntarily assume the commitment to contribute on a daily basis to the Sustainable Development Goals with actions involving our more than 1000 collaborators in topics of gender equality and reduction of inequalities”.
